We Got Chickens
We aquired our flock of backyard chickens during the spring of 2018. We were doing a little browsing at the local farm store, when we happened upon hundreds of wee fluffs of feathery cuteness, waiting for homes. Our hearts were smitten. After an hour or so of serious deliberation, we picked out a box of one-day-ish old chicks, and headed home. We previously had a small flock 10 years earlier.
A couple weeks later, as we were watching their daily antics with each other, my Mom remarked, "Hey Abby, this would make a great comic strip. You should make one." It felt right! My first edition came out around the same time as they went from the indoor brooder to their brand new fancy-schmacy chicken coop.
I never run out of material watching a continuous live stream of chicken TV in my backyard, and our girls have their own wonderfully distinct personalities. My comics are written around something they did that I actually witnessed. I do my best to put out a new comic each Friday on my "We Got Chickens" website, and on social media.
